Coach Kayvan joined BAC's Coaching Staff in 2024!

Hello everyone!

I'm Kayvan Sylvan, a passionate chess enthusiast with over three decades of experience in the tech industry. My love for the game began at the age of 10, when my father, a former chess champion in Khuzestan, a province of Iran, first introduced me to the world of chess.

Chess is a captivating game that seamlessly combines skill, creativity, and strategic thinking. As a coach, my mission is to help beginner and intermediate players discover and nurture the same lifelong passion that has kept me engaged and continually learning throughout my chess journey.

I firmly believe that playing and learning chess should be a fun and rewarding experience for everyone, regardless of their skill level. My approach to teaching is centered around fostering a deep appreciation for the game's limitless creativity and its rich history.

In terms of my personal chess style, I love and appreciate all styles of play, from the bold and aggressive approaches of legendary grandmasters like Tal and Kasparov, to the subtle and positional brilliance exhibited by Nimzowitsch and Karpov. Whether your goal is to sharpen your tactical abilities, improve your endgame technique, or develop a well-rounded playing style, I am dedicated to working closely with you to help you achieve your personal chess aspirations.

When working with beginner and intermediate players, my focus is on creating a supportive and engaging learning environment that encourages growth and fosters a genuine love for the game. Whether you're looking to improve your tactical skills, refine your endgame technique, or simply enjoy the process of learning and playing chess, I am here to support you every step of the way.

I feel incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to share my passion for chess with others, and I look forward to connecting with fellow players and enthusiasts in the Bay Area Chess community. If you're interested in exploring the captivating world of chess together, I would be delighted to embark on this journey with you.

I joined the Bay Area Chess in 2024 and I am thrilled to be part of the coaching staff.
