22 Camp types

Warm Welcome to Bay Area Chess Camps, 2022. BAC will be hosting a variety of in-person Camp options!
Our Mission: To introduce children of all ages to everything that Chess has to offer, socially and academically, in the Bay Area and Beyond!
Online Camps: This season, we will have Online Terms available.  Level 1 Bootcamps will be hosted every 2 weeks for new players!
New Players: Absolute Beginners are welcome at all In-Person Camps (below), or any Online Camp that posts for Level 1.
Levels: What are the 5 BAC Skill-Levels ?
Saturdays:  We have Drop-in (single session) Clubs (Palo Alto or San Jose) or Saturday Online Teams!

Regular Chess Camp:
     Half-Day block options available every week (register for both half-days to have a full-day camp, at a discount!) 
     We welcome any child of 5 years or older in regular camps (teens welcome, ages grouped accordingly)
     Prior chess knowledge is NOT required to attend a BAC camp.
     In-Person camps are for players Level 1 - 4.5, (under 1400 USCF or u1700 chesskid). 
     Bay Area Chess is CDC compliant.



Sample Camp Schedule

 Morning Schedule: 9am - 1pm
       *8:30 - 9am :  Early-Drop options available at Registration.
       9:00 - 9:30 :  Arrival + Casual Free-play Games, Warm-ups.
       9:30 - 10:25 :  Group Instruction/Demonstrations (based on observed skill levels).
       10:25 - 10:35 :  Recess / Snacks (see snack options / disclaimer below).
       10:35 - 11:40 :  Games, Organized Pairings, Puzzles, Analysis at Coach discretion. 
       11:40 - 12:10 :  Group Instruction/Demonstrations.
       12:10 - 12:40 :  Lunch Break / Outside time. Please pack a child's lunch.
        (Lunch is OUTSIDE with distancing. Snacks will be provided to children without one).
       12:40 - 1:00 :  Free-Play Puzzles and Gaming until Pick-up / merge into PM arrivals.

Bay Area Chess is CDC compliant. Masks are still recommended at this time. All our Instructors and Staff are fully vaccinated.
Safe-Practice: Handwashing breaks, common-sense distancing and routine Sanitation of Camp Materials.

Online, Summer 2022

This year, the Online Term classes (1 class per week for a designated term) will continue through the Summer. We will also host Online BootCamps for Level 1 Players (absolute beginners) every 2 weeks.

"Mighty Pawns" Level-1 Boot-Camp Format: 5 Daily Lessons, Monday through Friday. Registration comes with a Gold Membership to Chesskid.com if the student does not already have one. Boot-Camps come with the expectation that students will play on their own time, so the 50 minute session can be dedicated to Lessons for 3 of the 5 days, with instructional play on the other 2 (coach discretion).

Times Available:  Camps will be hosted at 10am-10:50, or 2:00-2:50pm (pacific standard time) on an alternating shcedule every two weeks  See the whole Camp Menu here: All Camps

Maximum Coach/Student Ratio: 10:1

Weekly Tuition:  $99 for Level 1  (5 classes, 1/day, + Gold Chesskid Membership)

     New users: Information about your ChessKid Membership (for new players) will be emailed 0-3 days before Camp starts. 

Zoom Links: The orientation for Boot-Camps (containing the Zoom Link) are emailed to you on SUNDAY Evenings before the Camp.

"Pro-rates and Make-ups": The packaged sessions of Boot-Camps cannot be pro-rated, but if you know in advance that you will miss ONE session, you can let us know and join a make-up class by attending one of our online Drop-In club sessions (single-session classes). Those are at specific times of the week and are by Level: Drop-In Sessions.
