Abel Talamantez

I’ve been the Head of the Enrichment Program here at Bay Area Chess since 2015, overseeing the 100+ after-school classes and other programs we provide around the Bay Area. Promoting the fun and benefits of chess is my passion, so you’re likely to find me either in the classroom coaching and teaching, or at one of our many tournaments, answering questions and giving out trophies!

GM Cristian Chirila

GM Cristian Chirila

GM Ioan-Cristian Chirila was born in Bucharest, Romania in 1991. He was introduced to chess at the age of five by his father, and by the age of 13, took 9th place at the 2004 Romanian Men’s Chess Championship. As you would expect from such a fast learner, he dominated Romanian junior chess, both individually and in team events. In 2007, he won the World Youth Championship in the U/16 category.

Dr. Judit Sztaray

I've been volunteering for BAC since 2012 and became Executive Director in March, 2014.
My mission is to bring BayAreaChess to the next level in both the enrichment and the tournament side. I have a special interest in developing and offering a sustainable platform where kids can start with chess at the very beginning and develop to their fullest potential at whatever level they want to reach.

Wolfgang Behm

Senior Lead Coach and Assistant Director of Enrichment, Wolfgang Behm, is an experienced professional scholastic coach, and he has been one of the most sought after scholastic instructors in Silicon Valley for the past ten years.
