Below is the statement from Coach Griffin:
Chess is my passion! I love conveying my enthusiasm for chess and helping students have fun, learn and improve.
I’m a Bay Area native and have been playing chess since my grandfather taught me at age 7. I’ve competed in tournaments
in five states and achieved a US Chess rating of 1834.
I love teaching chess at all levels. My focus is a well-structured lesson and explaining concepts with patience and
encouragement.
I teach online and in person and have a flexible approach to accommodate different students. We can cover fundamentals,
openings, defenses, tactics, endgames, or any special areas that a student has difficulties with or just an interest in.
I’ve helped newer players develop strong fundamentals and confidence. I’ve also coached experienced players preparing
for state championship-level tournaments.
I also tutor math up to pre-calculus and ESL (English as a Second Language).
When I’m not teaching, playing or studying chess, I enjoy hiking, swimming, exercising and following Formula 1 and NFL
football.
